Food Bank for Local Animal Guardians in Need

The Pennsylvania SPCA (PSPCA) is committed to helping all animals in need, whether it be those in need of new homes or medical treatment at its low cost animal hospital. To further that mission, the PSPCA is launching a biweekly food distribution program at its Philadelphia headquarters, to help animal guardians needing some assistance in providing food for their canine and feline companions.

“Given the nation’s current economic crisis, we know that there are many loving pet guardians that need just a little help in caring for their beloved dogs and cats,” said PSPCA Chief Operations Officer Lisa Rodgers. “We receive donations of food from generous individuals and companies across the Delaware Valley. We want to pass that food on to those families who are able to keep their pets but are facing some financial difficulties.”

The PSPCA food bank will be open every other Sunday, beginning March 1, from noon-3 p.m., at the PSPCA’s Philadelphia Adoption Center located at 350 E. Erie Avenue. Food will be distributed on a first come, first served basis. For more information, email info@pspca.org or call 215-426-6300.

Individuals and organizations wishing to donate food for the program can drop it off at the PSPCA’s Philadelphia Adoption Center seven days a week.

For more information on making a food donate, contact PSPCA Director of Development Rachel McCrystal at 215-426-6304, ext. 217 or rmccrystal@pspca.org.
