Park Etiquette

A compilation of official rules and of considerate behaviors to improve every body's dog run experiences.

* Open only one gate at a time and close each gate after you pass through. The double gate is designed for the safety of nearby pedestrians and drivers in addition to all the dogs in the park.

* Do not bring food into the park of feed other dogs in the park. Food can trigger aggressive behavior. In addition, many dogs are on strict diets for weight control or other health issues.

* Do not smoke in the park. It irritates some dogs and owners, and could cause a fire.

* Keep an eye on your dog at all times, and be considerate of other dogs and owners. Your dog's rough play or mounting may make other dogs or owners uncomfortable. Keep a collar on your dog while in the park so that you or others can hold and control the dog if necessary.

* Refrain from carrying your dog or keeping your dog on a leash while in the park. These actions tend to excite other dogs and increase the likelihood of conflict.

* Do not bring dogs into the park if they have health conditions that could affect other dogs. These include fleas, worms, diarrhea, and vomiting.

* Leave the park in better condition than when you arrived. Clean up after your dog and help to clean up after others if something has been missed. Discourage your dog from digging, and fill in any holes you see to reduce the risk of falls in the park.

* Be considerate of our neighbors. Minimize excessive barking, and leash your dog when outside the dog run.

* If you or your dog are involved in any incident within the park:
1. Complete an SPDOA incident report, available in the mailbox under bulletin board or on our website. The information requested on the form will allow us to follow up with the individuals involved and to take appropriate action.
2. Leave the completed form in the mailbox and notify the SPDOA president via email on our website (www.segerdogrun.org); you can also give the form to any SPDOA officer.
3. You may also call the police to report the incident if you feel that the situation warrants police involvement. (SPDOA may also call the police to report the incident based on the incident report.)

* Actively enforce dog park rules and etiquette. Everyone must be responsible for encouraging appropriate behavior for dogs and owners in the park.

* Consider having your dog spayed or neutered. In addition to its other benefits, this is effective in reducing aggressive and anti-social behavior toward other dogs.

REMINDER:
We try to provide plastic bags for those who may have forgotten to bring one. If you have additional bags at home, please bring them to the park and help us replenish the supply.

Also, when you are picking up after your pets, look around to see if there are any other "deposits" that your neighbors have missed. Your help is needed to keep the park clean and safe.
