Licensing Information and Immunizations

Visitors to Seger Dog Park must comply with all local laws and regulations. The City of Philadelphia requires that all dogs be registered and licensed. Licensing is done through the Philadelphia Department of Public Health. The licensing fee is nominal and varies according to the type of license you request and whether or not your pet is neutered. IMMUNIZATIONS
The City of Philadelphia requires that all dogs receive a Rabies vaccination. Additional immunizations needed by your pet vary according to their age and the type of activities they engage in. Please see the information below on common canine diseases and immunization schedules. There is also a list of veterinarians in the Center City area. These vets are not necessarily endorsed by the Seger Dog Owner's Association but are merely listed for your convenience.

Common Canine Diseases and Immunization Schedules (please see you veterinarian for additional information):

Distemper
Puppies usually receive a series of three immunizations (one at 6 to 8 weeks, the second at 10 to 12 weeks, and the final immunization at 14-16 weeks) followed by a annual booster shot.
Canine Hepatitis
Dogs initially receive a series of three vaccines (roughly 3 weeks between each) and a booster shot annually.
Rabies
The first vaccination is usually given between 3 and 4 months of age. This shot is followed by a second shot about one year later. A booster shot is then given every one to three years (depending on the type of vaccine your vet uses).
Parovirus
Like distemper and canine hepatitis, the vaccinations for parovirus usually are given in a series of three shot about 3 weeks apart. Annual booster shots are required.
Leptospirosis
Although this bacterial disease can be treated with antibiotics, a vaccine is recommended. This vaccine follows the same schedule as distemper, canine hepatitis, and parovirus.
