What is the SPDOA's policy on aggressive dogs?

The Seger Park Dog Owners Association will do everything within its power to construct and maintain a safe and welcoming dog run at Seger. An aggressive dog policy has been drafted to promote safety for all users. As we are not police, this policy will serve merely as a guideline. We will keep copies of all filed reports and will take appropriate actions when necessary, but cannot be held responsible for the behavior of any dog using the run. We encourage our members to report any incidents that occur to us, and, if necessary, the authorities. Severe incidents should be reported to the authorities immediately. An aggressive dog is defined as a dog who engages in threatening or violent behavior toward other dogs or towards humans. If an incident occurs within the dog run, it will be the responsibility of the dog owner and/or witnesses to report the incident. Incident Report Forms will be available within the dog run and on our web site. These reports will be kept on file by the SPDOA. Depending on the severity of the incident, the following actions may be taken:
  • A written statement will be sent to the dog owner. The owner will be strongly encouraged to seek additional obedience training for the dog. (If such training is sought, the incident report may be removed from our records)
  • A written statement will be sent to the dog owner. The owner will be asked to muzzle his or her dog at all times in the dog run and/or to walk the dog elsewhere.
  • A written statement will be sent to both the dog owner and the authorities. We will cooperate with the authorities by providing details of previous incidents.

We understand that some incidents occur for a specific reason (fight over a ball, tangled leashes, etc.) and will take these circumstances and the accounts of witnesses into consideration before taking any action.
